Stepping Into Authenticity: A Conversation with Christopher August

Introduction

On this episode of The True Form Podcast, I sat down with Christopher August, a transformational author, speaker, and co-founder of the breath work app Beats and Breath. For the past 15 years, Christopher has guided thousands of people through healing and awakening journeys, helping them break free from limitations and embody their authentic soul expression. In our conversation, we explored authenticity, breath work, intuition, relationships, and even the role of AI in human evolution.

What Authenticity Really Means

Christopher believes authenticity goes far deeper than how the word is often used today. For him, it’s about alignment with the soul. True authenticity is living, speaking, and acting from spirit, not from social conditioning or labels we’ve been told to fit into. He explained that becoming authentic requires shedding layers of fear and programming, and being willing to be truly seen. While vulnerable, this state creates powerful connection and is, in his words, “the gold currency” of our time.

Christopher’s Awakening Journey

His path began in 2008 after reading Many Lives, Many Masters by Dr. Brian Weiss. That moment sparked a shift from the corporate ladder to a deeper calling. A pivotal sign, a Peace Corps billboard asking “Are you ready to answer the call?” led him to volunteer in rural Tanzania for two years. While there, he survived a near-death experience rafting the Zambezi River. Both service and hardship became catalysts for him to pursue a life of meaning, purpose, and authenticity.

Intuition and the Power of Breath

Christopher describes intuition as our “inner GPS.” He explains that many of us lose connection with it because of constant mental noise, ego-driven fear, and distraction. To reconnect, he advocates intentional breathing. Conscious, diaphragmatic breath slows the nervous system, shifts brainwave states, and opens space for intuition to surface. His work with Beats and Breath integrates sound and rhythm to make this practice more accessible. Over time, the key is to build trust in your inner guidance and balance surrender with inspired action.

From Victim to Creator

A central theme Christopher emphasises is shifting from a victim mindset (“life is happening to me”) to a creator mindset (“life is happening for me and through me”). This means embracing life’s challenges as opportunities for growth and trusting that we are co-creators of our own reality. Following joy and simplicity, he says, is the formula, though ego often resists because it prefers complexity and control.

Stepping Into the Fire of Transformation

Transformation often requires discomfort. For Christopher, that has included extreme practices like dark retreats, ayahuasca ceremonies in the Amazon, and extended time with indigenous elders. But he makes clear that growth doesn’t require such extremes. It can start with everyday steps: waking up earlier to breathe, leaving an unaligned relationship, or making a difficult career choice. Ultimately, these moments are tests from “earth school” designed to evolve our souls.

Relationships as Mirrors

We also discussed relationships. Christopher sees them as mirrors reflecting our inner state, whether through intimacy, family, or even business. He challenges the cultural idea that relationships complete us, calling it a myth rooted in codependency. Instead, he describes empowered partnership as two sovereign, whole beings walking side by side, serving love itself. Conscious relationships, he says, along with raising children and starting a business, are among the greatest catalysts for growth.

AI, Fear, and Love

Our conversation even touched on artificial intelligence. Christopher views AI as a mirror: it can either amplify fear or become a tool that serves humanity, depending on how we use it. He believes the future will hinge on whether we choose to act from fear or from love. For him, love is not just light and peace, it’s a catalyst that strips away masks and pushes us into deeper transformation.

Key Takeaways

  • Authenticity is soul alignment, not just “being yourself.”

  • Breath work opens the door to intuition and presence.

  • Shift from victim to creator by embracing challenges and taking inspired action.

  • Growth requires discomfort - whether big initiations or small, daily choices.

  • Relationships are mirrors - the healthiest ones come from two sovereign beings.

  • AI is a reflection - our choice between fear and love will shape its impact.

Conclusion

Christopher August’s journey illustrates how courage, trust, and breath can guide us toward authenticity and purpose. His work reminds us that every challenge is an initiation into greater alignment with who we really are.
